McCart & Tesmer Law Firm

Our Mission

Our mission at McCart & Tesmer is to serve as Tampa Bay’s leader in the field of Marital and Family Law and Estate Planning and Probate, enabling our clients to reach constructive long term outcomes.  We represent good people who are facing life challenges that have the potential to negatively impact their life and their family's life --complex issues that should be addressed by an experienced attorney. During these times of emotional stress, you need someone in your corner whom you can trust, who prioritizes your needs, and who is responsive.

What sets us apart from our competitors is we publish our hourly rates and we tell our clients how to make the most effective use of their budget.

Laurel Tesmer, Esq.

Attorney Laurel Tesmer brings over a decade of legal experience and knowledge to her practice, which concentrates solely in the area families.  Laurel decided to narrow her focus to family law and estate planning when she realized that the valuable pretrial and courtroom skills she had developed over years of practice could be put to use helping children, families and vulnerable adults navigate challenging life and end of life events.  As a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Law Mediator, she understands the value of allowing clients to decide how their family will be restructured; however, Laurel eagerly litigates issues regarding parenting plans, child support, alimony, property distribution and contempt of court matters.

For contested family law matters and estate plans, it is essential to have an attorney who is familiar with the law and comfortable in the courtroom. Laurel enjoys providing experienced advocacy for her clients and supporting them through an unfamiliar, sometimes overwhelming, process. This gives her great satisfaction to lift a burden of worry off of their shoulders.

As a native Floridian, Laurel loves the hot summers and warm winters offered in Tampa Bay.   When not practicing law, she enjoys baking and cooking with her husband, and chauffeuring her son and daughter to their activities with her dog, Cooper.

Kristi McCart, Esq.

Attorney Kristi McCart recognizes how jarring a divorce can be for a family, especially a family with young children. As a child of divorce with numerous family law issues, she knows that what is often best for the children may not always be the easiest decision for a parent to make.  Kristi takes her time to get to know every client’s past to understand their present and to better plan and prepare for their future.

The loss or incapacity of a loved one can be extremely upsetting. Kristi knows she cannot spare her clients the grief that comes along with loss, but wants to put their minds at rest about legal concerns so they can focus on their own needs and those of their families. Having seen the impact on clients of poorly-crafted estate plans, Kristi offers estate planning services designed to minimize the risk of future disputes. But rest assured, Kristi frequently untangles the probate webs that loved ones often leave behind.

Kristi was born and raised in Northeast Indiana but loves calling Tampa Bay her home. When Kristi isn't in the office, she enjoys spending her leisure time with her husband and son. She is often attending Tampa Bay Lightning games or trying a new recipe.
